The Southdowns Challenge is a bike event designed, organised and run for cyclists of all abilities. In 2011 the age of the riders ranged from 13 to 74 and for many it was their first experience of a Cyclo Sportive. If you enjoy the countryside and like riding your bike, then you will meet like people on this the sixth year of running this event.
This year (2012) we have redesigned the two routes to make them more interesting and safer. The part of the routes on the busy A32 has been removed. Choose your distance, 50 or 80 miles. Select a target time or just plan to finish the distance. Whatever you choose, whether you are a regular Sportive rider or a first time charity rider, you will have an enjoyable and satisfying day.
“What a great day. Challenging, well organised and stunning countryside. Will be seeing you next year to beat my time” – Richard Tutin
On the day, registration will begin at 8.00 am with the first riders going off in groups of ten commencing at 9.00 am. The ride is fully supported with technical backup and includes check points and feed stations along the route.
We are proud of the Southdowns Challenge reputation for organisation, clear signage and general friendliness. See emails from some 2010 riders. As in previous years a number of small improvements will be made which we hope will help us set new standards for UK Cyclo-Sportives.
The entry fee
(£23.00 pre or £25.00 on the day) allows for hot drinks before the start – drinks and goodies at the feed stations – hot food and drinks on completion.
